How to use rosemary oil for hair growth

If you want your hair to grow back quickly, a special care regimen is essential. Regularly applying conditioners, applying hair masks, cleaning, and preventing the risk of hair damage are necessary habits to have healthy hair. Using rosemary essential oil for hair care and hair growth is a method chosen by many people.

What is rosemary essential oil?

Rosemary is native to the Mediterranean region and is an aromatic herb. Rosemary is often used in grilled meat and fish dishes because of its fishy deodorizing effect.

According to experts, essential oils or oils extracted from rosemary leaves have properties that reduce inflammation and dilate blood vessels. As a result, rosemary oil helps stimulate hair growth, improve blood circulation as well as soothe the scalp. As a result, this ingredient promises to bring many benefits to people with hair problems (alopecia areata, androgenic, or psoriasis).

A study in the Journal of Skinmed found that, after 6 months of use, rosemary oil was similar to minoxidil (a popular drug used to treat hair loss-related problems). Even people using rosemary oil experienced less itching like users of minoxidil.

In addition, rosemary leaves contain carnosic acid – an ingredient that can support the repair of skin and tissues, and protect the skin against environmental aggressors.

Note when using rosemary essential oil for hair growth:

Rosemary essential oil is said to be safe for most hair conditions, including dyed hair. However, as an essential oil, rosemary essential oil can make hair flat, and less bouncy if used incorrectly.

Here are a few ways to use rosemary essential oil for hair growth:

1. Use rosemary essential oil for hair treatment.

Mix rosemary essential oil with vegetable oils (such as almond oil, coconut oil, and pumpkin seed oil). Apply this mixture on the scalp, and massage gently with fingertips (do not use nails). You can leave the conditioner on your hair for 15 minutes to 1 hour, then wash it off with regular shampoo.

2. Add rosemary essential oil to the shampoo.

Adding rosemary oil to your shampoo will help strengthen the scalp’s ability to clean. Simply add about 5-8 drops of rosemary oil to shampoo and massage evenly for about 3 minutes.

Rosemary oil does not contain as much fat as other oils when added to shampoo will not make hair greasy. This can also be used regularly as rosemary oil does not strip the natural protective barrier on the scalp’s surface.

3. Combine rosemary with other oils.

Soaking rosemary in different oils can amplify the benefits of rosemary oil. You can use rosemary oil with olive oil, coconut oil, and lavender oil.

If you want to keep your scalp less greasy, you can add 3-4 drops of rosemary oil along with almond and chamomile oils to strengthen your hair.

4. Rosemary tea for the final rinse

The anti-inflammatory benefits of rosemary can be taken advantage of by brewing some rosemary tea and using it as a final shampoo. In addition, rosemary holds anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that help soothe the scalp.

Put in a cup or two of water and add a few sprigs of rosemary and bring to a boil. After about 3-5 minutes, lower the heat and let it simmer. Once done, wait for the tea to cool and use it as the last step in the shampooing process.

5. Drink rosemary tea

Sip rosemary tea for long, silky hair. Rosemary can also be used to promote hair health from within.

Rosemary tea is rich in ursolic acid, which enhances blood circulation and adds nutrients to the surface of the scalp. This helps to alleviate scalp irritation and prevent hair loss, thus promoting hair growth.
